If new single ‘Cough Cough’ is anything to go by, Manchester foursome Everything Everything should definitely not fall victim to the shit-second-album-syndrome. From the outset, everything is, in a word, brilliant. The track is hard-hitting, yet seems to glide effortlessly into a smoother chorus but still manages to maintain the fast tempo that makes the whole song so glorious.
Though the percussion isn’t dissimilar to Friendly Fires’ ‘Kiss of Life’, the powerful lyrics, which are, according to frontman Higgs supposedly about the power of money and ‘the desire to get away with it’ make the song truly their own. If anything, they provide a sense of irony as this song, and presumably the rest of their second album ‘Arc’ (great name, guys) will certainly not allow them to do that.
