2012 has seen Brighton duo Blood Red Shoes release their third album In Time To Voices, tour with The Gaslight Anthem and play at Reading and Leeds once again. To finish of the year nicely , BRS have shared their new EP ‘Water’ on Soundcloud as it’s set for release in early 2013. The 21st of January to be precise.

The EP kicks off with the energetic ‘Red River’ which re-establishes their rock roots after the generally mellower, low key tones of their most recent album. Just like the entirety of this EP, guitar riffs are shit hot and drums are heavy.

‘Red River’ is only a mere warm up for what comes in free download ‘Blank Distraction’ guitar wise. It contains some incredibly impressive grungy riffs from Laura-Mary (those riffs that make you think: “hmm, I wish I’d have written that”) and a very catchy lead vocal line on behalf of Steven.

‘Idle Hands’ is the final track and it lands itself more towards the songs found on Fire Like This than Box of Secrets or In Time To Voices and is a smashing ending to a short yet actually pretty much perfect EP which will have you head banging at your desk (or, sofa or well, wherever you’re actually listening to the EP) throughout. This EP is a reminder of why Blood Red Shoes are one of the best rock bands in the UK, and have been for the past 5 years.
