The Great Escape is one of the few music festivals that always delivers fantastic new music and is situated on the Brighton sea front. Every year on the same weekend in May, the music industry descends upon the city, bringing you the hottest live acts, lectures from industry professionals (past speakers include Paul Epworth), cool after parties and plenty of fun.
The line-up this year has matched our expectations and is as great as ever. Here are a few acts that we’re really excited about seeing this year:
Leeds punk rockers Eagulls will grace (or not) the Great Escape this year, bringing their shambolic, fascinating live performance down south with them. It’ll be an interesting show; mark my words.
We’ve been singing “When you see me walking around with him, I’m not just another chick. I’m. His. Girl.” for the past few months as it’s SO BLOODY CATCHY. With their album set for release later this year, it would be foolish to miss them as you’ll get to hear if the album lives up to the quality of ‘I’m His Girl’ and ‘Friend Crush’ first.
With her GarageBand crafted album, Visions, out over here in March, Vancouver born, artistic songstress, Grimes will be one of the most anticipated acts of the whole festival. Get in there early to make sure you can catch a glimpse of the lady as I’m pretty sure her live show will be incredible.
As mentioned by their pals, Swim Deep, in this interview, brummy hipsters, Peace, are pretty great. If you’re wanting to listen to uptempo, harmonious indie pop to go fittingly with your oceanic surroundings then Peace are the band for you this Great Escape.

Perfume Genius will be bringing his powerful piano based pop croonings to The Great Escape. It’s going to be amazing. We think that he’s fantastic. Here are a few reasons why we think this: http://freedomspark.co.uk/review-perfume-genius-put-your-back-n-2-it/
When Saints Go Machine
When Saints Go Machine are those talented electronic music creating Danes that released their fantastic album, Konkylie last year on K7 Records. They don’t play many shows over here, so make sure you catch them!
We’re quite aware that we keep on banging on about artrockers, Alt-J, but we absolutely love them and for all the right reasons; they’re very talented guys who have completely put their own spin on guitar based music with their experimental harmonies and quirky lyrics. They’re also great to watch live so you should definitely slot them into your schedule this Great Escape. Listen to and download the BretonLABS remix of their new single ‘Fitzpleasure’ below:
