Ahead of the release of his debut album, Trouble, which is released next month, I caught up with Orlando Higginbottom, AKA. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs for a brief chat about his fabulous live shows, old school divas and touring.
What are you up to at the moment, touring?
Yeah, sort of. I got back from Germany yesterday.
How are you finding touring? You’ve been touring absolutely loads over the past couple of years.
Yeah, it’s kind of how I live now so I’m used to it. It’s tiring, it’s difficult but also a lot of fun.
Your live shows are pretty interesting with the dancers, the costumes and the confetti cannons. Do you think that it’s important to make a live performance so special?
It’s just something that I wanted to do. I wanted to make it a fun electronic music show as a lot of electronic music can be presented in quite boring ways or particularly in ways that don’t really involve the audience very much. I just wanted to try it; it wasn’t really something with a big thought process behind it.
What can we expect from Trouble. Is it a complete mash of electronic genres?
Yeah, there’s lots of different sounds on there. There are some of the singles that I’ve already put out on there. Some of it’s song based, some of it’s clubbier; yeah, there’s a lot of different areas of dance music on there.
What’s been your favourite live show so far?
Ever? That’s a difficult question. It would probably either be Melt! Festival last summer of maybe Heaven in London in February.
If you could produce anyone, who would it be?
Any artist? God, I don’t know. Some old singer somewhere. An old diva.
Apart from the album release, what have you got coming up?
There will be some videos for some singles and basically just touring the UK and doing some European festivals and then Australia and Japan and some more shows all around the world.
What do you hope to do with TEEDs after the album and everything that goes with it?
I guess I’ll just keep on writing music as I want to do another album.
Trouble is released on 11th June on Polydor.
